About Us

KPUM, established in 1970, is one of the earliest-formed Malaysian student unions. For over five decades, we have represented and continue to represent the interests of all Malaysian students of English Law courses, based in both the UK and Malaysia.

In line with our mission — Uniting Law Students, Empowering Future Lawyers, and Upholding the Rule of Law — we organise events which create valuable opportunities for our members, offering them critical insights into the legal profession and providing them a platform to meet members of the legal fraternity and fellow law students.

We are privileged to enjoy official recognition from the Malaysian Bar, which has kindly supported us and our members throughout the years. We have also had the distinct honour of the Royal Patronage of His Royal Highness Sultan Azlan Shah, a former Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) of Malaysia who was himself a respected lawyer and later jurist who served as Lord President of the Supreme Court from 1980 to 1984.

The Executive Committee of the 2024/2025 term aims to continue upholding KPUM’s core mission and vision:

President's Message

As the United Kingdom and Eire Malaysian Law Students’ Union (KPUM) continues to build on more than five decades of history, I am deeply honoured to serve as its President for the 2025/26 tenure. Since its founding in 1970, the Union has been guided by generations of Malaysian law students who have carried its legacy forward with integrity, purpose, and a shared belief in the transformative power of legal education.

The Union’s heritage remains an enduring source of pride. Once under the Royal Patronage of the late His Royal Highness Sultan Azlan Shah, former Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Lord President of the Supreme Court, KPUM stands as a testament to the ideals of service, scholarship, and leadership that have shaped Malaysia’s legal community. Today, we remain committed to upholding those same ideals as we continue to represent, connect and bring opportunities to Malaysian students pursuing English law across the United Kingdom and Malaysia.

In an ever-evolving academic landscape, our membership base reflects the diversity of modern legal education, encompassing students from internal, external, and transfer degree programmes. This inclusivity lies at the heart of what makes KPUM special, a union of law students united by shared ambition, irrespective of background or pathway. Our goal is to ensure that every member feels represented, supported, and inspired to contribute to the greater legal community.

Looking ahead, my vision for KPUM is one of renewal and relevance. We will continue to reassert the Union’s place as the leading voice for Malaysian law students studying English law, not only through our flagship initiatives but also through new programmes designed to bridge academia and the legal profession. I believe the Union must be more than a representative body, it must also serve as a platform for access, advocacy, and opportunity.

To our partners and sponsors, your support sustains our work and widens our reach. To our members, your passion and participation give the Union its purpose. Together, we will ensure that KPUM continues to grow, to serve, and to inspire future generations of Malaysian law, students. Thank you for being part of this journey.
